A serious question about the justice system...?

I remember from history cl that the ancient Babylonians used a harsh yet efficient justice system. If we revived it it might work. Public executions, also, like in the frontier days could be reinstated and televised so that people would learn the consequenses of comitting violent crimes. That might work also. What do you think?
