There is never any way to tell whether a relationship will work or not because it takes two to clap and each relationship is unique in its own way. Only the participants in the relationship can decide whether to put in the effort to make it work. The central thing is to be patient in whatever comes by and take things in moderation instead of making a big fuss of everything.
